Description: Askrigg Common is a large area of open heather moorland and blanket bog, important for breeding birds such as golden plover and merlin. Grip blocking aimed to restore the natural drainage pattern of the moor, prevent erosion and enhance the diversity and richness of the vegetation in the wetter areas.
